Friday Favorites #3

Hello Lovelies! Happy weekend eve!

The three things I’m about to share with you are my current addictions. I’ve been using and wearing them for weeks now and will continue to do so throughout the fall and winter.

Pashmina Blanket Scarf

Let me start by saying – I’m so glad that it is finally cold enough in North Carolina to pull of boots and scarves. Not that it was stopping me, I was sweating it out as soon as October first hit. I was pinning fall outfits, cider recipes and cute pumpkin carving ideas and kept coming across blanket scarves. I skipped buying one last year and knew this was the year I had to have it.

This scarf. Oh my.

First of all, its pashmina so it’s basically made with the softest things on the planet – clouds, teddy bears…Vince Gills voice. All balled into this beaut.

It’s so large that I’ve actually used it as a blanket. It’s my go to travel scarf because even though it’s big, it’s also light enough to throw on with a t-shirt and skinny jeans to pull a look together. Not to mention the fact that you can unfold it on the plane and cover up with it.

The price point was also decent. I’ve seen blanket scarves on Etsy go for upwards of $40, this one was on Amazon for $18, so I call that a win. There is a very similar one at Walmart that I looked at for $10 – they were cute, but the fabric was different and not quite as soft. Still, the price point tempted me and I’m going to go back tomorrow and pick up the black and white one.

I’m weak.

Too Faced Melted Lip – Chihuahua

Okay, so I’ve gotta be up front, I’m not sold on the Too Faced line, yet. I’ve just not been overly impressed with some of their eye shadows or their formulas. But this lipstick is to die for.

I say lipstick, because although it’s technically a long wear lip, it doesn’t dry down completely, thus it transfers and isn’t super long wearing. It stays fairly glossy, which in the winter is great. Everything is so dry that full matte lips, for me, come with A LOT of work – exfoliating, moisturizing and priming.

img_9933I actually love that it doesn’t dry completely because it keeps a nice light gloss without looking like full wet lips, which I appreciate.

I even threw in a shameful selfie so you could see the color in action.

See what I mean?!

These are a bit pricey, at $21 each, but well worth it. I actually bought two different formulas of the Melted line, and this one is by far my favorite. The applicator is soft and you don’t have to take multiple swipes for application or even use a lot of product.

642 Things to Write About, by the San Francisco Writer’s Grotto

It’s coming into November, which is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), so I’ve been getting all of the blogs lined out for that – Yay!

Meanwhile, I have a novel that I’m trying desperately to finish. Anyone who’s ever needed to write ANYTHING can relate to writer’s block. It’s a cruel, cruel part of the job.

I actually received this as a Christmas present one year and I’ve been using it ever since to help break through bouts of writer’s block and it’s always within arm’s reach during NaNoWriMo.

It’s pretty self explanatory – there are 642 different writing prompts. They range from lists to letters to different scenarios.

What I love most is that they’re all incredibly simple to think through and I can usually hammer a few prompts out in a sitting. It’s a great thing to thumb through on a break.

Even if you aren’t writing a novel, suffering massive amounts of writer’s block, like I am, it’s a fun little book to play around with!

Friday Favorites #2

Welcome back lovelies, I hope everyone has had a phenomenal week!

This week has been a busy one to say the least – and it’s been super rainy here in North Carolina – which I love! But it makes me want to nap…all the time…like a bear.

Still, I made photos happen, even with clouds and I am so excited to present this week’s Friday Favorites. I am loving this series, so let’s get to it.

1. The Happy Planner

Oh, dear heavenly deity – thank you for this beautiful organizational creation. Amen.

This. planner. is. my. life.

Without it I would be unorganized and unproductive. My addiction to office supplies runs deep, ya’ll and I am really particular about what things I use. Which means I try a lot of different things.

I have always been a pen and paper kind of gal. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate technology and all it has to offer – but there’s something about writing something down that just makes it happen. Which is what makes this planner so amazing…

  • I like to draw.
  • I have ginormous handwriting.
  • I like the idea of scrapbooking and visual journaling…but never really stick with it.
  • I really like stickers. (*Note the Pusheen the Cat sticker below)

The Happy Planner lets me pull all of it into one place – which with my hectic days, I need. I can use stickers and washi tapes and make it my own. I cannot stress how much I love that. Being able to decorate and create is one of the reasons I have stuck with this brand of planner for so long.

There’s so much room for activities!

That’s a direct quote from the movie Step Brothers which I also adore, FYI.

I love that there is a note section in the lefthand margin. I also love the fact that It breaks each individual day out by morning, afternoon and evening. It opens it up to let me use it for notes, drawing, or to jot down appointments. I realized that when I would use hour-by-hour planners, I would pack my day to the minute and that got really hectic.

But seriously. Can we just look at one more beautiful photo of this thing?

I really like that in between the months there is a planning section that lets you block for goals, important things, events, etc. and you just have a nice quick month overview.

They are really affordable and come in around $30.00 – which I think is well worth the price you pay.

I could go on and on about this planner and the more I talk about it the more I want to do a future Friday Favorite post dedicated specifically for this planner…which I may do.

Moving onward!

2. Jeffree Star Velour Lipsticks

Oh my damn.

Have you ever just looked at a lip color and teared up? That’s is what these colors do every single time I look at them. They are SO pigmented. SO velvety going on your lips. JUST. SO…

I love that Jeffree puts out vegan products and has a ridiculously wide range of colors. Once these dry matte, they don’t look chalky or clumpy on your lips like some matte lips can. Also, they hold up to eating a burrito, and we all know you can’t do THAT like a lady. So to be able to eat and still have flawless lips is a win.

He also loves Taco Bell and says things like, “You better WORK GIRL,” on his YouTube channel…so basically I was sold on him from the beginning.

Although I’m just now venturing into the crazy lip color world, the Jeffree Star line has a lot of neutral everyday wear colors. Which, as you can see above – is the majority of what I own.

HOWEVER. I’m a sucker for a good red lipstick. Out of all the colors I own – Rich Blood has to be my go to.

The only sad, sad thing? They are almost always sold out of the one color you want… *cough cough* Gemini *cough cough*

But if you’re patient and follow him on social media, you can catch the release and restock dates of all of his stuff.

Price wise – these are $18.00 per tube, so they are definitely moderately priced, but worth every penny. Like I said before it is SO pigmented that a little bit goes a long way…and did I mention the burrito eating? Because, that.

#3. Mighty Mug Biggie

I am clumsy and I like to drink hot beverages on a regular basis.

One day we were walking through Walmart and I just happened to see this mug on an end cap. It was advertised as ‘spill proof’ and the ‘mug that won’t tip’ or some other fancy-marketing-way of saying “BUY ME NOW, ASHLEY!”

I ended up getting it for Christmas, and

It holds up to its claims!

I said magic about the Staedtler pens last week when they didn’t dry out – so do you see a pattern here? I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan, so when I find muggle things that work like magic – I’m sold.

  • It’s really nicely insulated. I have put coffee in it first thing in the morning, and it survived a drive to work and two meetings before I came back to it. I made the amateur mistake of thinking my coffee would have cooled and burned my tongue instead.
  • It really is budge proof. So long as it is on a flat surface, that isn’t carpet or some weird texture, it won’t be swayed by an accidental bump or table jolt!
  • Supa-dupa affordable. I had to look up the price point because I received this as a gift. It sells on their website today for $19.99.
  • I also started peeking around and they have a ton of different options to choose from, including sizes and styles. So…I may be shopping is what I’m telling all of you. Transparency is key.

If I can not spill liquid fire on myself or ruin a dress or top by ways other than dribbling coffee down my face, which, lets face it – happens more than I care to admit, I call that a win.

Friday Favorites #1

Happy Friday, lovelies! Can we all just give a high-falutin’ HALLELUJAH that it’s finally Friday?

I’m actually really excited to write this particular post for the first time! There are sooo many things people ask me about – what’s your favorite lipstick, movie, hair product, Hemsworth brother?! Chris, in case you were wondering.

So over the summer I knew this series was something I wanted to add as a regular weekly post…and whaddya know?! Here it is.

Let me know if you use or try any of the things I list – I want to get to know all of your favorites as well!

The first thing on my list is the NYX Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade.

NYX Tame & Frame Brow Pomade

As a woman with the natural eyebrows of Groucho Marx, *this* stuff is a heaven send. It is a lot of work to keep up with these caterpillars. Generally speaking, I have to put a lot of time and effort into my brows.

  • I’ve been on the fence for a while with spending upwards of twenty bucks for the Anastasia Beverly Hills or Benefit Brow products. Don’t get me wrong, I love love love those products as well, but at the end of the day, I do still try and spend a reasonable amount of dough on makeup.
  • I also like to have several different types of each product to be able to change it up. There’s always a good mix of drug store and higher end product in my makeup bag.

So when I couldn’t find my brow powder, I asked my niece, Mackenzie if I could borrow what she used. Which in case you were wondering – was this magical concoction. I was legitimately so impressed.

  • The pigmentation was intense and unexpected – so trust me when I say that a little dab’ll do ya.
  • The price point is way more affordable, coming in around $6.00, depending on your retailer – which by the way *most* major retailers carry this brand. I’ve bought NYX at Target, CVS, Ulta and I’ve seen it at a few others.

So it’s definitely affordable *and* accessible – which is important to me.

Newman’s Own Organic French Roast Coffee

So what’s a coffee addict’s favorite things without at least one coffee related item? Lame. That’s what.

I drink *a lot* of coffee. You know Lorelai on Gilmore Girls? It’s like that. I’ve also become a bit of a coffee snob, but that gets uber pricey if you aren’t careful. I had to set out on a mission to find a good at home coffee.

I have a Keurig…not sure what model, but it’s a coffee maker and it gives me life – so we will just go with that. One day on my quest, I noticed these little gems.

Newmans Own Organic Coffee French Roast
I figured, I like Paul Newman. His brand of salad dressing has never let me down – and helloooo Cool Hand Luke. So I picked them up.

Here’s the thing with coffee for me – it has to meet the following criteria –

  • Be coffee
  • Have caffeine
  • Taste decent, or at least be able to be repaired with honey or something.

That’s about the extent of it. I’m also willing to try any brand of coffee at least once.

This brand impressed me for a couple of different reasons –

  • These are in French Roast, so it’s an incredibly dark brew. Like my soul. I love it. The flavor is rich and robust. You can taste the roast on the beans its so strong. Slap your mama in the face kind of strong.
  • Affordability-ish. These were a little pricey – I think I paid around ten bucks for 12 pods. I’ve seen some brands with the same price point offer more coffee pods. But I’m telling you, for the flavor – well worth the price and still technically in the lower price range.
  • Smell – I know that’s weird. But there isn’t anything I love more than to have a house or a room that smells of coffee. In my town we have a coffee company. On days when they are roasting the beans that entire part of town smells like coffee. It’s intoxicating. Because this is such a dark brew it is really, really fragrant. I love that I can brew one cup of coffee and my office will smell delicious for hours afterwards.
  • Re-heating ability. Okay, okay. On the rare occasion I don’t get to finish a cup of coffee, I generally try to reheat it and consume it later. There is nothing more gag worthy than reheating a cup of what was once delicious coffee, only to find out that once re-heated it turns into the green toxic slime from Ninja Turtles. Only – you don’t get to be a ninja turtle, so it just kind of sucks. This one reheats beautifully. It’s the same cup of coffee I started out with after I heat it back up.

Even if you aren’t a coffee-connoisseur and you’re just looking for a well-rounded blend – this one is at the top of my list for an everyday, affordable go-to.

Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Pens

If you think I’m a coffeeholic…wait until you see me with office supplies.

It’s borderline disgusting how much I love office supplies and shopping for them. Case and point? I literally had a dream about the perfect trapper-keeper (remember those babies?) and I was shopping for it in Office Depot. Jesus.

I do a lot of journaling, drawing, writing (go figure) and other writey-things. I also pin a lot of this stuff on Pinterest, so I’ve stumbled across the Staedtler brand a couple of different times.

Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Pens

Low and behold – one day at Walmart I saw them and of course had to buy them.

Total transparency – I am a gel pen kind of girl, so I wasn’t sold on the idea of these at first.  Now I carry these pens everywhere with me.

  • They’re triangular shaped, and although they’re thin *something I’m not a fan of generally* – the fit is really nice.
  • They also write so smoothly and they don’t smudge. I write fast and jot down a lot of notes and ideas really quickly. Not having pen scuffs up my arm at the end of the day is nice.

*Note – While I believe these pens to be magical, they do not actually keep you from writing on yourself when you forget to put the lid on.

Which brings me to my next point. They have caps. ‘Ew’ – you can say it. I feel ya. I hate pens with caps. I’m a click-pen fan all the way.

I was really skeptical with the fact that these were A. Felt-ish tip pens and B. Had a cap. Not usually a good combination. I have murdered many a pen by leaving the lid off and drying them to death.

  • I experimented with these and left the lid off for a full 24-hours. Not a change. It didn’t even hesitate to write as normal the next time I picked it up. Like I said, MAGIC.

So that’s it, lovelies! MY first list of Friday Favorites, why I love them and a little preview to my ridiculous office supply habit.

If you like this and want more or less, want me to try something that you think could make the FF cut – let me know in the comments!
